Philippine Pig-Butchering Scam Den Busted by Authorities

Police recently launched a raid on a pig-butchering scam den in Angeles, the television news program in Philippine 24 Oras reported.

The Philippine National Bureau of Investigation NBI arrested 85 suspects. When the police arrived, the con artists were in front of their computers running the scam. They targeted foreigners on social media platforms and lured the victims to invest in cryptocurrencies by conducting pig-buchering scam.

Among the arrested suspects, a woman was included and she made video calls with victims fot the scam.

The scammers targeted foreign investors from America and Europe. The vistims were often retired seniors with pensions.

With the permission of the related departments, the NBI confiscated the computers and mobile phones used by the suspects and will analyze the data from the devices to identify the victims.

The arrested individuals were detained on suspicion of violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act and they will face charges.
