Anti-Scam Education: HKU Students Required to Complete Fraud Prevention Questionnaires

As part of anti-fraud measures, students at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) were required to fill out a fraud prevention questionnaire before entering the libraries, or else they would be restricted from accessing the libraries and the Chi Wah Learning Commons.

HKU required local and non-local students to complete the questionnaire by February 10 via the e-learning platform. The questionnaire contained 31 questions, involving various scam cases that students may not be aware of.

To help students identify potential fraudulent activities, HKU also distributed a comprehensive fraud prevention learning kit to students, which provides information on four common frauds in the form of videos and multiple-choice questions.

Speaking on a radio program, Hong Kong lawmaker Chow Man-kong commented, “The measure is not aimless, rather, it is well-intentioned and for the benefit of students, therefore worthwhile to take an attempt.”

He believed that this measure was not aimless, on the contrary, it was well-intentioned for the benefit of students and therefore worth trying.

Hong Kong lawmaker Johnny Ng Kit-chong, while supporting the measure, made suggestions on the content of the questionnaire. He believed that the Mainland's anti-fraud questionnaire contains more detailed cases and was more comprehensive. Meanwhile, the questionnaire for Hong Kong students was “elementary”.

“The primary objective of this initiative is to facilitate the comprehension of fraudulent information for students, particularly newly-arrived mainland students.”
