ASB Bank Warns of Investment Scam Impersonating ASB Securities

2025-04-21 BrokersView

ASB Bank has warned about an impersonation and investment scam targeting investors through fraudulent text messages and WhatsApp invitations. The scheme lures victims with promises of “too good to be true” investment opportunities and falsely claims to be from ASB Securities, ASB’s share trading platform.

According to ASB, the scammers contacted potential victims via WhatsApp and other channels, directing them to click a link to access their supposed investments or bank accounts.

Brodie Macdonald, ASB GM for fraud and scams, warned that fraudsters appear to be exploiting ongoing market uncertainty to manipulate investors. The turbulent financial conditions can make individuals more vulnerable to acting quickly and overlooking warning signs of scams.

Macdonald urged investors to remain vigilant, particularly when asked to make payments or provide sensitive details. "Anyone can fall victim to a scam, and staying alert to scammers is our first defence," he emphasized.
