CME Group Sets Record with 2024 International ADV of 7.8 Million Contracts

The world's leading derivatives marketplace CME Group has announced its record international average daily volume (ADV)  of 7.8 million contracts in 2024. This marks a significant 14% increase compared to 2023.

 

This growth, encompassing all trading activity outside the United States, was notably driven by record performance in several key areas:

  • Energy surged by 31%
  • Metals saw a 27% rise
  • Agricultural increased by 25%
  • Interest Rate Up 12%
  • Forex products increased by 10%

 

On a global scale, CME Group's total ADV reached a record 26.5 million contracts in 2024, reflecting a 9% increase from the prior year. The primary contributors to this growth were:

  • Interest Rate ADV, up 10% to a record 13.7 million contracts
  • Metals, with a 23% increase
  • Agricultural up 13%
  • Forex products grew by 8%

 

"We were especially pleased to see so many clients outside the U.S. turning to CME Group to access the markets and trade products they needed to navigate through ongoing economic and geopolitical uncertainty last year," commented Julie Winkler, Senior Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer, CME Group. 

 

Looking ahead, Winkler emphasized the importance of risk management in 2025 and CME Group's commitment to supporting clients in managing risks and unlocking opportunities.
