A tempo driver in Navi Mumbai has fallen victim to a foreign exchange scam, losing Rs 0.5 million in the process. According to the police, a case has been registered against three individuals for allegedly deceiving the 26-year-old tempo driver under the guise of providing foreign currency in exchange for Indian rupees.
The incident occurred between December 21 and 22, 2024, when the accused approached the victim on a highway in Sanpada township. They offered him US dollars in return for his Indian currency, enticing him with the promise of a lucrative deal.
The victim handed over Rs 0.5 million to the scammers, who in return gave him a bundle of notes in a cover, assuring him that it contained US dollars. However, upon later check, the victim discovered that the bundle contained only a single US dollar note, with the rest being blank pieces of paper.
