The Financial Markets Authority of New Zealand (NZ FMA) has warned about a fraudulent insurance license allegedly issued by the regulator. Scammers are issuing a fake FMA insurance license to overseas individuals seeking to meet work visa or permit requirements for entry into New Zealand. The FMA has confirmed that it does not issue this kind of license.
The fraudulent scheme involves a company falsely claiming to be based in New Zealand, misusing details of a legitimate local entity, Cambridge Partners Limited. The FMA has confirmed that Cambridge Partners Limited is not involved in the scam.
In the fraud scheme, victims are typically overseas job seekers who receive deceptive employment offers via online platforms such as LinkedIn. These individuals are then provided fake contact details for the New Zealand Embassy and directed to proceed with the visa process. As part of the scam, they are issued a fake FMA insurance service license, falsely stating that the holder is authorized to obtain a New Zealand government work visa or permit. Once payment is made, the perpetrators vanish.
