Ontario Woman Arrested for Defrauding Six Coworkers

A woman from Ontario has been arrested for allegedly defrauding six coworkers in an investment scam, according to Canadian police.

This comes after six employees of a local restaurant paid large sums of money and the Windsor Police Service launched an investigation into the matter, issuing a wanted notice and eventually arresting 53-year-old Lina Jido.

According to police, the arrested woman was charged with fraud over $5,000 for allegedly luring victims to invest in bogus investment companies. Between April 30, 2023 and January 19, 2024, the six restaurant employees transferred $77,700 to Jido.

On March 17, Jido turned herself in to Windsor police.

Investment scam often results in serious financial losses for victims, and most victims have difficulty recovering the money they have been defrauded of. Investment advice from friends and family cannot protect anyone's money.

When accepting investment advice, be sure to check whether the trading platform or financial company has a financial services license, and make sure that your money is protected by local regulators to avoid investment scams.
