Recently, several phishing scams in Singapore have caused at least S$9,000 in losses to victims.
According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the number of related cases reached 12 in August this year alone.
The scammers posted fake advertisements on social media, posing as NTUC FairPrice, a supermarket chain in Singapore. Victims clicked on the unknown links attached to ads and were directed to a phishing website, where they were lured to disclose shipping addresses, bank card details, and One-Time Passwords.
Victims would find that unauthorized transactions have been made on their bank cards, some of which involve foreign currency. The victims reported cases to the police when they realized that they had been scammed.
Fraudulent and misleading information rampages on social media platforms, making it difficult for people to distinguish between truth and lies. Please be cautious about unknown links and do not disclose private details such as personal information and bank account information to avoid being scammed.
