Pig-Butchering Scam Victim Paid Over RM60,000 "Medical Bills" for Online Girlfriend's Mother

A Malaysian delivery man met a woman online and made transfers worth more than RM 60,000, but found that everything was just a scam.

According to Malaysian police, the 28-year-old victim met the woman, “Leong”, through WeChat in August last year. Within 20 days, the victim developed trust in the woman and agreed to pay for her mother's medical bills.

Leong repeatedly asked the victim for money, and when she refused, she threatened to end their relationship. Between August and November last year, the victim initiated 16 online transfers.

Despite the man's repeated requests to meet the woman and her family, she always gave various excuses to avoid meeting, which made the victim feel very frustrated.

Suspicious, he searched for the woman's photo online, only to find her avatar was of a famous Hong Kong actress.

The victim believed he had encountered a pig-butchering scam and decided to call the police.
