On Monday, 72 Forex scam victims from Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei traveled to Malaysia to report the case to the local police.
These investors began to transfer money to the Malaysian bank accounts provided by the scammers in 2020, but since last year, investors have been unable to withdraw their funds.
Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim, secretary-general of the Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation, revealed that the gang had scammed up to RM100 million.
Investors who reported the case have transferred about RM40 million to a Forex investment company registered in Labuan. A Singaporean investor even mortgaged his assets for the investment.
Moreover, the investors did not verify whether the company was actually conducting investments or whether the so-called investment company was a scam.
Hishamuddin said it was clearly an “international syndicate. The victims were not only local Malaysians, but also people from neighboring countries.
