Big Shock to Finance and Heart: Scammers Posing as Keanu Reeves Scammed 67-year-old Out of Her Life Savings

Katherine Goodson, 67, decided to share her story after suffering a horrible pig-butchering scam, hoping others wouldn't fall for it. She said, “I don't blame anyone but myself.”

In 2022, Goodson met a man online who claimed to be famous Hollywood star Keanu Reeves.

The man asked Goodson to prove to him that she wasn't interested in his fame and wealth by sending him a $500 gift card.

Goodson agreed to give him the gift card and said she wanted to hear his voice. However, as soon as the victim heard him, she immediately recognized the lie and blocked him, saying, “You're not him.”

In order to warn others not to fall for the scam, the woman shared her experience on social media. Then, she received a message from the real Reeves - at least she thought it was real.

Reeves said he felt sorry for her, and the two soon fell in love. The scammer even said he wanted to marry her.

In an interview, Goodson showed a stack of Bitcoin transactions, gift card and wire transfers to reporter. For more than two years, she thought the money went to Keanu Reeves and his team.

During this time, Goodson had repeatedly asked to speak to Reeves or meet him in person, but the scammer always made excuses. Even the excuses for asking for money were seemingly reasonable.

When “Reeves” realized that Goodson had spent all her money and could not give him more, his attitude changed sharply, which made the victim find it was a scam.

When asked why she would send money to a scammer over and over again, Goodson frankly admitted that she was very lonely. It's hard for her to explain why she would do that. She just thought the things made sense to her at that moment.

She said, “It was mind-boggling to the point that I didn't know my head from anything.”

The tragedy of the pig-butchering scam happens across the globe, with countless victims not only losing their savings but also suffering a severe psychological blow. Scammers manipulate victims so that they unconsciously hand over their money, only to regret it later.
