IOSCO Appoints CNMV Chair Rodrigo Buenaventura as Next Secretary General

The Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has announced the appointment of Rodrigo Buenaventura, the current Chair of the Spanish Securities and Markets Commission (CNMV), as its next Secretary General. Rodrigo's three-year renewable term will commence in the coming weeks, following the completion of his mandate as Chair of the CNMV.

In addition to his roles on the IOSCO Board and the Board of Supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), Rodrigo also serves as Chair of the IOSCO Sustainable Finance Task Force, Vice-chair of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee, and Chair of the ESMA Markets Standing Committee.

IOSCO Board Chair Jean-Paul Servais commented, “It is a great pleasure to welcome Rodrigo as the new Secretary General of IOSCO, where he has been known as an outstanding regulator and leader for many years. In his different roles, including as IOSCO Board Member and as Chair of the IOSCO Sustainable Finance Task Force, Rodrigo has proven excellence in delivering important achievements for IOSCO. His entire career, including his most recent experience as Chairman of the Spanish regulator CNMV, will equip him to guide the General Secretariat in supporting IOSCO’s future work at this important juncture.”

Jean-Paul Servais thanked Tajinder Singh for his excellent work as acting Secretary General since May 2024. Tajinder Singh will continue to serve the IOSCO Secretariat as Deputy Secretary General.
