Jasin District in Malaysia Lost RM1.9 Million to Online Scam This Year
Jasin District, located in the eastern part of the Malaysian state of Malacca, lost RM1.9 million to online scam in the first quarter of 2025, a 300% jump in the amount compared to the RM451,000 lost in the same period last year.
Local police have received 74 reports so far, doubling the number of reports compared to 35 received in the same period last year.
In the online scams perpetrated this year, a man in his fifties was conned out of RM352,000, which is the highest amount of money lost among all the scams reported.
This victim, who lives as a contractor, found an investment advertisement on Facebook that promised investors about RM2 million in returns. Believing it, he lost all his savings.
At the 218th Police Day celebration on March 25, Jasin District police highlighted the 9% drop in the overall crime rate in the area.
